The Work Of God On Our Hearts And In Our Lives 5

Psalms 1:1-2 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the Law of the Lord. Read Psalms 1:1-6.

What precious blessings are promised to God*s blessed man! How delightful to be like a fruitful, unwithering tree, planted in God*s special place by His special design, and watered continually by the refreshment of His eternal Word! But these blessings are not without their price, my friend. There are three lifestyles we must avoid. WALKING in the *counsel of the ungodly* is living with the attitude, *I can do better for myself without God.* This is Satan*s ancient lie, which has remained unchanged through the centuries. We must beware of trying to better ourselves outside of God*s will. Adam and Eve tried it and the action cost them Eden, innocence, the fellowship of their Creator, and life itself. STANDING in the *way of sinners* is characterized by a *me first* mindset. The world*s dictum is *Nice guy*s finish last.* But the Apostle Paul said, *Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others... In honor preferring one another* (Phil. 2:4; Rom. 12:10). SITTING in the *seat of the scornful* is thinking or saying, *I am better than you.* We need to remember that we are all level at the Cross. Wendell Loveless used to say, *Everything outside of the lake of fire is pure grace!* The positive side of God*s requirements for His blessed man is preoccupation with and delight in His Word. The only permanent way to modify human character and conduct is to subject it to the Bible. Leland Wang used to say, *No Bible, no breakfast.* He would not eat until he had been with his Lord in the Word for a heart-satisfying time. Small thought here. There are unlimited blessings available to you and to me, all purchased by Christ*s precious blood shed on Calvary. But they are only available if we face up to God*s requirements: the Word in our lives, producing a different walk, a different stance, and a different attitude.
